This weeks Waffle Wednesday features this Norwegian savory twists on waffles – a more hearty waffle served with hot dogs! It’s a delicious dinner that might quickly turn into a family favorite.

Middagsvaffel med wienerpølse

Nothing is better than the smell of freshly baked waffles, and they actually go just as well with dinner as with coffee. These coarse waffles with potato and carrot taste delicious and fill you up well. Together with Wiener sausages, this quickly becomes a new everyday favorite with the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 540 grams / 1 pound wieners / hot dogs.
  • 100 grams / 3.5 ounces small tomatoes.
  • 1 lettuce.
  • 1 red onion.

Waffle Batter

  • 3 dl / 10 ounces all purpose flour.
  • 1 dl / 3.4 ounces oatmeal.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar.
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder.
  • 2 eggs.
  • 4 dl / 13.5 ounces milk.
  • 1 carrot.
  • 1 potato.
  • 50 grams / 2 ounces butter.

Instructions

  1. Start by making the waffle batter. Mix together flour, oatmeal, salt, sugar and baking powder in a large baking bowl. Stir in milk and melted butter. Peel and grate the carrot and potato, and mix it into the waffle batter.
  2. Let the batter swell for 20–30 minutes before frying the waffles in a greased waffle iron.
  3. Slice the tomatoes, finely chop the red onion and rinse the lettuce. Pull the wiener sausages and fill the waffle with hot sausage and the accessories.

Serve with ketchup or other condiments of choice.
